Major General Nicholas Dhiyier Dak Jing, who died on May 28, 2026, at 64, was a key figure in the SPLA SPLM. He joined the organization in 1983 and participated in several major operations during the liberation struggle. His biography was shared by his daughter during his funeral in Juba. Born in 1962 in Akobo County, he was the son of Dhiyier and Nyalual Banang. His grandmother was from the Anyuak community. He was known as 'D.R.' within his family and used the name 'Sayyid' during school. He married Joy Poni from the Bari community, and they had three children. His education included primary and secondary schooling, followed by military and administrative training. He completed a Diploma in Public Administration and attended various military courses. He joined the SPLM/SPLA in 1983 and had a long military career.
His contributions to the liberation struggle and military career highlight his significant role in South Sudan's history.
