Study Links Having Boys to Longer Lifespans for Mothers
En ny dansk studie visar att mammor till pojkar i snitt lever 1,6 år längre än andra kvinnor. Delar av barnets dna överförs till mamman under graviditeten – och det tycks finnas ett samband mellan manliga celler i kvinnokroppen och minskad risk för olika former av cancer. – En graviditet förändrar kroppen permanent, säger stamcellsforskaren Cecilia Götherström.
A new Danish study suggests that mothers who give birth to boys tend to live approximately 1.6 years longer on average than other women. Researchers propose that a portion of the child's DNA is transferred to the mother during pregnancy, and the presence of male cells in the mother's body may be associated with a reduced risk of certain cancers. Stem cell researcher Cecilia Götherström notes that pregnancy permanently alters a woman's body. This finding opens new avenues for research into the biological connections between maternal health and the sex of offspring.
The study's findings suggest a potential biological link between having sons and increased maternal longevity, prompting further research.
