A toddler died after allegedly falling into a bucket of water at a residence in Kanchanbagh in the early hours of Monday.
The child, identified as 16-month-old Ayat Khan, was the daughter of Mohammad Asif Khan, a resident of Hafiz Baba Nagar C block in Kanchanbagh.
According to police, the incident occurred at a relative’s house. Around 1 p.m., the child’s mother, Habiba Unnisa, gave her a bath and later left her to play with other children in the house.
After some time, family members noticed the child lying inside a water bucket in the bathroom. She was rushed to a private hospital in Chandrayangutta and later shifted to Niloufer Hospital for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Kanchanbagh police registered a case and initiated a probe into the circumstances leading to her death.
