Karnataka Minister Defends Government's Letter to RSS Chief on Legal Status
‘Under SIR you ask for documents and ask what is wrong in asking documents. But when you are asked for documents by the Karnataka government, you are jittery’
Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has asserted that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) cannot refuse to respond to the state government's letter regarding its legal status. Kharge stated that the questions were posed by the government, not as an individual inquiry. He expressed optimism that the RSS, as a national organization, would provide the requested details. Kharge had previously written to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat seeking information on the legal grounds for the organization's functioning, its donations, and tax-related issues, citing its mobilization of nearly 20 lakh people in Karnataka. He indicated a willingness to visit the RSS state headquarters if necessary.
The exchange between the Karnataka minister and the RSS chief highlights ongoing scrutiny of organizational legal status and transparency.
