Samagra Shiksha State Project Director (SPD) B. Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday said eight schools from Andhra Pradesh had won the national-level ‘Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating’ (SHVR)-2025.

Mr. Rao, in a statement, said that SHVR is an initiative of the Central government launched to promote safe water management, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and environmental sustainability in schools. The drive is conducted in alignment with the Centre’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) principles, and the national assessment had recognised only 191 schools across the country. He said that Andhra Pradesh had achieved a significant milestone with eight schools earning national-level recognition for their outstanding performance.

The award-winning schools from the State include Zilla Parishad High School, Thadikalapudi, Eluru; Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Hiramandalam, Srikakulam; Municipal Primary School, Steamer Road, West Godavari; Zilla Parishad High School, Malicherla, Vizianagaram; Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Anandapuram, Visakhapatnam; Mandal Parishad Primary School, Lingampeta, Anakapalli; Mandal Parishad Primary School, Jalumuru, Srikakulam; and NATCO School of Learning, Ponnur, Guntur (Private Unaided School).

Each of these nationally recognised school will receive a ₹1 lakh composite school grant as an incentive, a national recognition certificate for excellence in cleanliness and green initiatives and special exposure visits for the headmasters to study best practices from leading institutions across the country.

Mr. Rao expressed hope that these schools would serve as role models for educational institutions across India by promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices in school education.
