Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Tuesday directed officials to accord top priority to public safety and traffic management during monsoon while calling for long-term solutions to recurring waterlogging issues through coordinated action by multiple departments. He was speaking at an emergency review meeting held near Malkam Cheruvu to assess flood management, drainage and traffic preparedness measures in the city. The meeting was chaired by Government Adviser Sudarshan Reddy and attended by senior officials from the Police, Irrigation, Municipal Administration and Disaster management departments. During the review, Mr.Anand said the Police department was maintaining a high level of preparedness to minimise inconvenience to citizens during heavy rain. He instructed officials to identify vulnerable locations, prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement during periods of intense rain. He also directed police personnel to prepare alternative traffic routes and provide timely updates to the public whenever diversions become necessary. The DGP asked police teams to maintain constant surveillance at low-lying areas, flood-prone localities and major traffic junctions across the city. He further directed that emergency response systems remain fully operational to enable swift action during rain-related incidents. Officials informed the meeting that special engineering teams had been constituted to inspect flood-prone locations including Malkam Cheruvu, Khajaguda Lake, Mandikunta, Gurunath Cheruvu, lakes in the Miyapur region, Biodiversity junction and Kondapur. The teams will assess drainage connectivity, water flow channels, encroachments and other factors contributing to flooding and water stagnation. Mr. Anand stressed that effective flood management would require close coordination between the police, irrigation authorities, GHMC, HYDRAA and other departments. He urged all agencies to proactively identify problem areas and implement corrective measures
