CES security committee condemns abduction of 34 civilians in Morobo

The Central Equatoria State Security Committee has condemned the abduction of at least 34 civilians in Morobo County by suspected SPLA-IO forces. In a post on the official Facebook page on Tueday stated that the condemnation came during the committee’s regular meeting chaired by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony. According to the committee, four of the abducted civilians managed to escape, while the remaining captives are still being held by the suspected group. The committee directed security forces in Morobo County to engage with the suspected abductors and intensify efforts to secure the safe release of those still in captivity. SPLA-IO has not claimed any responsibility over the abduction. Meanwhile, the committee also discussed measures aimed at improving security along major transport routes and trading areas across the state. The committee instructed the Commissioner of Juba County to coordinate with the Pibor Administrative Area Coordinator in Juba and the Commander of Ground Forces to establish a secure corridor for traders transporting cattle to Mogiri Market. The committee said the arrangement is also intended to guarantee the safety of civilians travelling along the Juba–Bor Road. Security officials who attended the meeting called for stronger cooperation among security agencies to improve operations, maintain law and order, and enhance public safety across Central Equatoria State.
