Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar, on Wednesday (June 17, 2026), said the four former AIADMK MLAs against whom disqualification proceedings were initiated and notices served on June 9 seeking explanations, have submitted written replies within the stipulated period. The Speaker said he would go through their explanations and make a decision on them later.

Disqualification proceedings were initiated against former MLAs S. Jayakumar (Perundurai), Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), and Esakki Subaya (Ambasamudram) for defying the party whip and voting in favour of the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the trust vote in the Assembly on May 13.

The four former MLAs met the Speaker at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Barring these four, the remaining 21 rebel MLAs, who also defied party whip and voted in favour of the government, were condoned by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami after they reconciled with the party. Of the MLAs against whom action was dropped, C. Vijayabaskar resigned his Assembly membership on Tuesday (June 16).

Following his resignation, Viralimalai Assembly constituency has been notified vacant in the government gazette.
