DAR ES SALAAM: A team of specialists at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has successfully delivered quintuplets, with all five newborns and their mother reported to be in stable condition following the rare and complex delivery. The babies, three boys and two girls, were born over the weekend, under close medical supervision at the country’s leading referral hospital. Their mother, Victoria Mkwizu of Tabata in Dar es Salaam, said she was deeply grateful for the care she received throughout the pregnancy and delivery journey. She said the hospital team guided her closely from admission to delivery, ensuring she remained safe despite the high-risk nature of the pregnancy. “I am truly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and everyone who stood by me. Their care made it possible for me and my babies to come through safely,” she said. He said the pregnancy was first identified at around three months, after which the couple moved through Amana Referral Hospital before being transferred to MNH on May 15, 2026. “At first, we were told it could be two babies, then four. In the end, God blessed us with five,” he said. Benjamin, a motorcycle taxi operator, said the family was both overjoyed and anxious, noting the financial pressure of raising multiple newborns at once. He expressed relief that the hospital covered all medical expenses throughout the treatment and delivery period. MNH Director of Surgical Services, Dr Rachel Mhaville, said the case required intensive specialist care due to its complexity and rarity. She said the hospital would continue to monitor both mother and babies until they are fully stable and ready for discharge.
