Demonetised currency notes of ₹1,000 denomination with ₹9 lakh face value and gold ornaments weighing more than 200 grams have been found in a bank locker belonging to a retired Public Works Department (PWD) engineer Manik Kanakatti during a Lokayukta search operation in Kalaburagi.
The locker was inspected on Wednesday at the State Bank of India branch near N.V. College by a Lokayukta team that carried out the search at Mr. Kanakatti’s residence in Godutai Nagar and other locations on Tuesday.
During inspection, officials recovered several bundles of demonetised ₹1,000 notes that have remained in the locker since the 2016 demonetisation. The team also found various gold ornaments, including rings and jewellery items, weighing more than 20 tolas.
The search was carried out under the guidance of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddaraju C.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavaraj, Police Inspector Arun Kumar Rajasekhar Badadesar and other Lokayukta personnel were present during the operation.
