KONGWA: Residents across five districts in central Tanzania are expected to benefit from a more stable electricity supply following the completion of major infrastructure upgrades implemented by TANESCO at a cost of more than Sh10.5bn. The projects, which cover Gairo, Mpwapwa, Kongwa, Chamwino, and Kiteto, include a switching station, a 20 MVA voltage regulation system, and a 92 kilometre 33 kV transmission line linking Zuzu and Mbande. Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi inaugurated the facilities in Kongwa District, saying the investment is aimed at improving reliability and supporting economic activity in fast growing areas. He said the new system has significantly reduced the widespread outages that previously occurred when a single fault affected multiple districts. “Earlier, one technical fault could disrupt supply across several areas, especially during the rainy season. That challenge has now been greatly reduced,” he said. Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Minerals Chairperson Subira Mgalu said the projects reflect steady progress in strengthening national infrastructure, noting visible improvements in service delivery. TANESCO Managing Director Lazaro Twange said the region previously depended on a single transmission line from Dodoma Urban, which had become overstretched due to rising demand. He said the new system has improved stability, cutting service interruptions by more than 90 per cent. “Demand grew faster than the capacity of the old system. These upgrades have now made a clear difference in reliability,” he said. The post Central power upgrades slash outages by over 90pc first appeared on Daily News .
