Shigellosis continues to take a toll on the State with more cases being reported from seven districts on Wednesday. The Health department has confirmed that the death of a 75-year-old woman at Aliparamba in Malappuram on Tuesday was due to shigellosis. The death of a 22-year-old woman following acute diarrhoeal disease has also been reported from Valad in Wayanad district.
Shigellosis cases were reported from Puthenthope and Poonthura in Thiruvananthapuram; Azheekkal in Kollam; Moolamkuzhi in Ernakulam; Arimbur in Thrissur; Areacode, Thrikkalangode and Mampad in Malappuram; Thalakulathur and Moodadi in Kozhikode and Koothuparamba in Kannur. A total of 167 shigellosis cases and six deaths have been reported in the State so far this year.
