A third-year student at the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Juba is making waves in South Sudan’s technology sector after developing a website for the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy and launching a sports application designed to deliver live scores, match updates and local sports coverage across the country. This young innovator, Bol Chadar Tong, says the projects are aimed at supporting digital transformation in government communication and promoting grassroots sports by connecting fans, players and football scouts through technology. The first project is a website developed for the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy, Hon. Adut Salva Kiir, which he says is intended to provide the institution with a modern and professional digital presence. The website is currently hosted on GitHub using a temporary and unofficial domain name for demonstration and development purposes while awaiting possible approval from the office. In a Facebook post, Bol said the platform was designed as a prototype to showcase how government institutions can benefit from modern digital tools. “I developed this website as a demonstration project for the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy, Hon. Adut Salva Kiir. At the moment, it is hosted on GitHub under a temporary and unofficial domain for development purposes,” he said. Bol explained that should the project receive official endorsement, he plans to begin the process of obtaining an official government domain ending in “.gov.ss” through the National Communication Authority. “Government domains ending in .gov.ss are reserved exclusively for recognized government institutions and cannot be purchased through commercial registrars. If approval is granted, the intended official address would be ospe.gov.ss,” he said. According to him, the transition to an official government domain would strengthen the office’s credibility and improve accessibility for citizens, stakeholders and development partners. In addition to the website project, Bol has also completed the development of Bolscore, a sports application designed to provide live scores, match events and sports updates in real time. The application, which has been under development for the past 90 days, aims to provide comprehensive coverage of sporting events across South Sudan, giving fans quick and reliable access to local sports information. “I am glad to officially announce that the Bolscore Application, a project I have been building for the past 90 days, is now successfully completed,” Bol said. “Bolscore is designed to deliver live scores, match events and sports updates in real time, similar to major sports platforms. Its primary goal is to provide comprehensive coverage of sports events across South Sudan and bring local sports closer to the fans.” Bol said the platform could also contribute to the development of football in the country by helping clubs identify talented players from different states. “The app will help scouts from various South Sudan Premier League clubs identify players from across the country and bring local talent into major competitions. This can contribute to the growth and strengthening of football in South Sudan,” he explained. The development of Bolscore was carried out in three major phases: website development, Android application development and iOS application development. The web version of the platform is already accessible through www.bolscore.com, while the iOS version is available for download on Apple’s App Store in 133 countries. Bol said the Android version is currently under review and is expected to become available on Google Play Store once the approval process is completed. The young developer expressed hope that his work will inspire more South Sudanese youth to embrace technology and innovation as tools for national development. The projects come at a time when South Sudan is increasingly embracing digital transformation, with growing calls for government institutions, businesses and sports organizations to leverage technology to improve service delivery, communication and public engagement. For Bol, the completion of both projects demonstrates the potential of local talent to develop home-grown technological solutions capable of serving communities and supporting national development.
