Former Minister of Power and 2027 governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports linking him with a planned defection to the Social Democratic Party, describing them as false and baseless. Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday. Awogboro said the former minister had neither contemplated nor authorised any move to the SDP or any other political party. The reaction followed a statement credited to the media office of an SDP governorship hopeful, Saheed Oladele, which warned Adelabu against seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Oladele had cautioned Adelabu against allegedly attempting to “hijack the governorship ticket of the SDP through the backdoor.” However, Awogboro described the claims as a fabrication, saying they existed only in the imagination of their promoters. He said, “It is important to note that the APC gubernatorial primary process has not even been concluded, and no result has been officially declared. “Consequently, the fabrication of stories about a purported defection lacks any factual basis whatsoever and can only be viewed as a desperate attempt to attract public attention by exploiting the name and stature of Adelabu.” He added that linking Adelabu to a non-existent defection agenda was unfair and politically motivated. “The attempt to link Adelabu with a non-existent defection agenda is therefore highly disrespectful and should be condemned by all well-meaning members of the public. “It is nothing more than a calculated effort to generate media attention and create an artificial political trend where none exists,” he stated.
