“We take this seriously”: Zijin responds to US copper import ban over forced labor allegations

Serbia Zijin Copper said that it takes the US ban on its copper imports seriously, adding that the company is currently “conducting a human rights assessment.”

The response follows a media release from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announcing a Withhold Release Order against copper and copper products manufactured in Serbia by Serbia Zijin Copper D.O.O. The order, effective immediately, directs CBP personnel at all US ports of entry to detain shipments of these products due to evidence reasonably indicating the use of forced labor in their production.

When contacted by N1 regarding these allegations, Serbia Zijin confirmed it is aware of the US Customs decision and takes the situation seriously.
