The Ecuadorian National Assembly has unanimously approved a parliamentary investigation into alleged irregularities in the management of municipal videovigilance systems in Guayaquil. The probe, initiated following leaked audio recordings, aims to clarify potential violations of security protocols and access control related to systems operated by Segura EP. Assemblyman Andrés Castillo, who proposed the investigation, denounced the alleged partisan use of security infrastructure for political surveillance. The Commission on Integral Security will lead the investigation, with a 60-day deadline to present findings and recommendations.
This signifies a move towards greater governmental transparency and accountability, addressing potential abuses of surveillance technology for political purposes.
