Load Shedding Plagues Southern Bangladesh; Ice Shortage Impacts Fishing
বর্ষা ঋতু শুরু হলেও দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের মানুষের স্বস্তি মিলছে না। বরং তীব্র তাপপ্রবাহ ও ভ্যাপসা গরমের মধ্যে ঘন ঘন বিদ্যুতের লোডশেডিং জনজীবনকে বিপর্যস্ত করে তুলেছে। বরিশাল নগরে এক সপ্তাহ ধরে দিন ও রাতে প্রতিদিন পালা করে তিন থেকে চার ঘণ্টা লোডশেডিং হচ্ছে। জেলা ও উপজেলা এবং গ্রামপর্যায়ের লোডশেডিংয়ের পরিমাণ আরও বেশি। দিনের পাশাপাশি রাতেও দীর্ঘ সময় বিদ্যুৎ না থাকায় চরম ভোগান্তিতে পড়েছেন সাধারণ মানুষ। এদিকে লোডশেডিংয়ের কারণে বরফ উৎপাদন ব্যাহত হওয়ায় চলতি ইলিশ মৌসুমে দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের অনেক জেল
Southern Bangladesh is experiencing severe electricity load shedding, with outages occurring daily for three to four hours in বরিশাল city and even longer in surrounding areas. This frequent power disruption is severely impacting daily life, small businesses, and industrial production. The ice shortage caused by load shedding is also hindering fish preservation, affecting the local fishing industry, particularly during the ongoing Hilsa season. Many fishing trawlers are unable to set sail due to the inability to store catch. The demand for electricity in the region is estimated at 550-600 MW, while supply is only around 400 MW, leading to a 25-30% deficit.
Widespread load shedding in southern Bangladesh is disrupting daily life, crippling businesses, and threatening the fishing industry due to an ice shortage, highlighting critical infrastructure challenges.
