German defense manufacturer Rheinmetall is collaborating with Vantor, a leading US provider of commercial satellite imagery, to establish a joint venture aimed at bolstering sovereign space intelligence capabilities for Germany and other European nations. Vantor stated that this partnership will grant the German armed forces sovereign control over acquired data and allow European clients direct management of Vantor's satellite constellation, including the use of Raptor software for GPS-denied navigation and targeting for drones. Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger highlighted the venture's role in building sovereign European geospatial intelligence capabilities. Rheinmetall secured intellectual property rights guarantees before signing, intending to leverage this collaboration for the Spock 2 satellite intelligence program tender. This follows Rheinmetall's recent joint venture with OHB to develop a military equivalent of Starlink for the German army.
