Crocodile Attack in Sundarbans Claims Life of Woman Fishing for Prawn Fry

A woman named Selina Begum (50) was killed in a crocodile attack while fishing for prawn fry in the Shala River, located between Joymoni village and the Sundarbans forest in Bagerhat's Mongla Upazila. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Begum was with two other fisherwomen when a crocodile emerged from the water and attempted to drag her away. Her companions managed to hit the crocodile with wooden sticks used for fishing, causing it to release her and submerge. Locals recovered Begum's body later that evening. Although collecting fry is banned in the Sundarbans, Begum was reportedly engaged in this illegal activity at the time of the attack. The Forest Department confirmed the incident.
