HDC 2026: HarmonyOS 7 Developer Beta Launches with 66 Million Terminal Ecosystem

Huawei's annual HDC 2026 kicked off in Dongguan from June 12-14, marking a major milestone with the official release of the HarmonyOS 7 Developer Beta. The event showcased an operating system ecosystem that has firmly transitioned from validation to confidence. OpenHarmony now boasts over 140 million lines of contributed code, more than 3,500 ecosystem partners, over 1.3 billion ecosystem devices, and over 13,000 code contributors. Its reach spans urban governance, energy management, government services, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, smart appliances, robotics, and drones. On the consumer front, HarmonyOS has surpassed 66 million users with access to over 400,000 applications across smartphones, tablets, PCs, TVs, wearables, and vehicle cockpits. The flagship announcement — HarmonyOS 7 Developer Beta — represents a fundamental shift toward AI-integrated OS design. The upgraded Celia (Xiao Yi) smart assistant incorporates an Agent-friendly architecture with the HMAF 2.0 framework, achieving full system capability Skill-ification. Celia processes 1.8 billion daily active interactions and 3 billion daily wake-ups. Three major technology upgrades were unveiled. HarmonyOS Star Shield Security uses on-device AI large models to instantly detect seven types of fraud. HarmonyOS Galaxy Connect delivers significantly improved transmission speeds and supports Xiaoyi Claw integration for multi-device coordination. HarmonyOS 7 also debuts the first built-in performance large model — the Ark Engine. Born in 2019 for the era of all-scenario connectivity, HarmonyOS has evolved through the HarmonyOS NEXT foundation. With HarmonyOS 7 Developer Beta, Huawei continues its journey from a latecomer to a transformative force in the global operating system landscape.
