SEOUL, June 18 (Yonhap) -- Vice Defense Minister Lee Doo-hee on Thursday visited an Army unit in the northeastern city of Chuncheon to inspect its readiness posture ahead of the rainy summer season, the defense ministry said.
Lee visited the Army's Second Corps in the city, some 85 kilometers northeast of Seoul, where reinforcement work is under way to prevent potential damage from seasonal downpours and typhoons, according to the ministry.
During his visit, Lee urged the unit to "thoroughly" complete safety measures and remove any potential hazard in advance to ensure the safety of troops.
The ministry said it plans to step up inspection of areas vulnerable to natural disasters during the summertime as part of efforts to maintain a "robust" defense readiness posture.
