AI System 'Heitros' Detects Brain Tumors in Just 12 Minutes

Scientists from Heidelberg University Hospital and the German Cancer Research Center have developed an AI system named Heitros capable of detecting brain tumors and determining their type in just 12 minutes. This significantly reduces the diagnostic time compared to current methods, which can take several weeks. The AI was trained on over 11,000 digitized tissue samples from 9,000 patients across four continents. Heitros can accurately differentiate between 102 distinct molecular subtypes of brain tumors. In comparative tests, human specialists achieved only 30% accuracy in diagnosing complex samples, while Heitros achieved 68% accuracy.
