The canal aims to significantly boost trade links with Southeast Asia and connect inland provinces to global shipping routes via the Gulf of Tonkin. The tested vessels utilize advanced systems, including real-time data transmission for navigation and automated mooring. These tailor-made ships are designed to maximize the canal's capacity for container and bulk cargo. The canal's main lock can accommodate six such ships simultaneously. Further vessel deliveries are expected before a planned test run in September.
