Belgrade Budget Faces New Revision on June 25 Due to Overspending, Poor Management

The director of the Center for Local Self-Government (CLS), Nikola Jovanović, announced that Belgrade's budget will undergo a new revision on June 25 due to excessive spending and mismanagement. CLS has repeatedly criticized the city's budget as unsustainable. Jovanović cited a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report from June 15, which identified the capital's public finances as a significant fiscal risk for the entire country. He noted previous attempts to postpone the budget revision until autumn. Jovanović urged immediate and systemic measures, including administrative reform, professionalization of public utility companies, and combating corruption, to avert bankruptcy and potential receivership.
