Women who are victims of gender-based violence in North Macedonia often face online hate speech and public condemnation instead of support. Following tragic cases like those of Ivana and Rosica, victims are frequently subjected to judgment and accusations on social media, even posthumously. Experts note that public reactions often shift blame to the victim, questioning their actions rather than focusing on the perpetrator's responsibility. This online harassment, described as a form of cyber hate speech, relativizes violence and diminishes the perpetrator's accountability. Gender equality experts warn that such narratives discourage victims from reporting abuse due to fear of public reprisal. The phenomenon is seen as a continuation of violence through digital means.
