Carlos Alberto Suástegui Villanueva, 39, has been identified as the man killed in a shooting incident at Guayaquil's José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Interior Minister John Reimberg confirmed Suástegui was an Ecuadorian national and reportedly the leader of the 'Los Águilas' criminal group in El Triunfo. Authorities considered him a high-risk target. Reimberg revealed Suástegui had prior police records, including four previous arrests and two periods of imprisonment, along with multiple suspect reports.
