Assam Reports Seven Japanese Encephalitis Deaths This Year; National JE Deaths High

The National Health Mission (NHM) has confirmed seven deaths due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Assam this year. This brings the total number of JE deaths in India since 2018 to 985, with Assam accounting for approximately 62% of these fatalities. The state's high burden of JE cases is a significant public health concern. In response, the government is intensifying surveillance and preparedness measures ahead of the peak JE season. These efforts include strengthening case management protocols, ensuring hospital readiness, and boosting vaccination coverage. The proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of the disease and prevent further loss of life.
