Sterile Tiger Mosquitoes Released in Graz to Combat Disease-Spreading Insects
Bis zu zwei Millionen unfruchtbare Männchen sollen in den kommenden zehn Wochen freigelassen werden. Die Bevölkerung ist dennoch zur Mithilfe bei weiteren Maßnahmen aufgerufen
Sterile tiger mosquitoes are now being released in Graz as part of a new initiative to control the population of disease-carrying insects. Over the next ten weeks, up to two million infertile male mosquitoes will be released into the environment. The aim of this program is to reduce the number of viable mosquito eggs and thus curb the spread of the tiger mosquito population. Despite the sterile release, residents are still urged to participate in other control measures. This biological control method is a proactive step to manage the public health risks associated with tiger mosquitoes, which can transmit various diseases.
