The state has accused murder suspect Abner Mateus of orchestrating a plan to set fire to the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court and arrange for his case docket to be stolen, following two failed bail applications. Prosecutor Yeukai Kangira informed the court that Mateus also attempted to coerce the fraud complainant into withdrawing the case. Mateus, in custody since November 2022, is charged with masterminding the murder of prosecutor Justine Shiweda, who was shot and doused with acid shortly before his scheduled court appearance. Mateus denies all allegations, asserting his innocence in the prosecutor's death. The state further claims Mateus contacted an alleged co-accused, a medical doctor, immediately after Shiweda was attacked, a call Mateus also denies making. Kangira emphasized Shiweda's dedication to her duty in removing dangerous individuals from society.
This case is significant as it involves serious allegations of obstruction of justice and murder conspiracy, including attempts to compromise the judicial process itself.
