Murder Accused Mateus Allegedly Attempted to Steal His Own Fraud Case Docket
The police have alleged that murder accused Abner Mateus made several attempts to make a fraud case docket against him disappear, including recruiting police officers to steal court documents. Lead investigator detective chief inspector Antonius Gabriel made these allegations while testifying in the bail application of Mateus’ nephew and co-accused, Petrus Shikwaya, on Thursday. Police allege that murder suspect Abner Mateus made multiple attempts to obstruct justice by trying to make a fraud case docket against him disappear. These attempts reportedly included recruiting police officers to steal court documents and attempting to bribe the late prosecutor Justine Shiweda. Lead investigator Detective Chief Inspector Antonius Gabriel testified that Mateus had a motive to interfere with justice due to pending fraud charges from a 2022 case involving N$70,000. Gabriel stated Mateus allegedly planned to burn down the office where the docket was kept and later sought to bribe Shiweda, whom he is accused of murdering. Mateus denies involvement in Shiweda's murder.
