Met duizenden aangiften van ernstige misdrijven is in 2024 niets gebeurd. Dat concludeert de Algemene Rekenkamer na een onderzoek bij de politie. The Dutch General Audit Office has concluded that thousands of reports detailing serious crimes were left unaddressed in 2024 following police investigations. Approximately 7,000 reports were immediately dismissed, while another 3,000 cases, though initially accepted, were later closed due to insufficient police or Public Prosecution Service capacity. These cases included allegations of violent crimes, drug manufacturing, and identity fraud, representing about a quarter of all serious crime reports filed that year. The Audit Office noted significant regional disparities in how cases were handled. The report also indicated a lack of oversight regarding budget allocation for investigations, hindering the ability of the Justice Minister and police chiefs to make informed decisions or adjustments. Minister Van Weel acknowledged the need for improvements but described the reported figures as a "distorted picture."
The Dutch Audit Office's report revealing thousands of unaddressed serious crime reports highlights systemic failures within the justice system, impacting public safety and trust.
