Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Case in London: Wai Sentenced to 10 Years, Yuen to 8

A UK Border Force officer and his 'handler' working for Chinese intelligence in the UK have been sentenced to prison. Chi Leung Wai, 40, received a 10-year sentence, while Chung Biu Yuen, 65, was sentenced to eight years. Both were convicted of assisting a foreign intelligence agency, a crime under the UK's National Security Act. Wai used his position to access Home Office computer systems to track Hong Kong dissidents in the UK and was also found guilty of misconduct in public office. The judge stated their actions "threatened the sovereignty of the nation." The investigation revealed activities conducted "on behalf of the Hong Kong authorities, and by extension China as a state." Counter Terrorism Policing London emphasized that such activities will not be tolerated in the UK. The Home Office stated the government will hold China accountable for actions endangering national security.
