Colombian authorities have assured that ample guarantees are in place for the upcoming presidential runoff election. However, they have cautioned that significant political tensions could arise if the results between the far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella and the leftist candidate Iván Cepeda are very close. The Attorney General, Gregorio Eljach, stressed the importance of respecting the outcome and avoiding rhetoric that could incite confrontation. He urged citizens to act as 'extinguishers' to de-escalate political tensions. The National Registrar, Hernán Penagos, affirmed the robustness of the electoral process, highlighting numerous control mechanisms and the participation of over 1,400 international observers. Both officials emphasized that any doubts should be addressed through democratic channels, not public unrest.
