Significant progress has been made in the Progen corruption case in Ecuador, thanks to international cooperation. José Julio Neira, Secretary General of Public Administration, confirmed advancements in identifying beneficiaries of embezzled funds. The Ecuadorian government has consolidated international partnerships, particularly with the United States, to trace the flow of stolen public money. This collaboration has enabled the analysis of 89 suspicious transactions and the identification of 29 final beneficiaries. Funds totaling $15.2 million were linked to Astrobryxa, a company with operations in both the US and Ecuador. The Financial Analysis and Economic Unit (UAFE) has frozen assets of involved parties, and the case file has been submitted to the Attorney General's Office for further legal proceedings. The investigation has uncovered a public-private corruption network dating back to 2016.
The successful use of international cooperation in the Progen case demonstrates the effectiveness of global partnerships in combating corruption and recovering illicit funds.
