Katwijk Municipal Council Tentatively Approves Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Plant Construction
De gemeenteraad van Katwijk heeft een voorlopig positief advies gegeven over de bouwplannen voor een grote medicijnfabriek van de Amerikaanse farmaceut Eli Lilly. Een ruime meerderheid stemde kort na middernacht in met de vergunningaanvraag, waar nu iedereen op kan reageren. In het najaar volgt een definitief besluit. Enkele uren voor de raadsvergadering bereikten het Rijk, de provincie Zuid-Holland en de gemeente Katwijk een akkoord over onder meer de financiële voorwaarden.
The municipal council of Katwijk has granted preliminary approval for the construction of a large pharmaceutical manufacturing plant by American company Eli Lilly. A significant majority voted in favor of the permit application shortly after midnight, opening a period for public response before a final decision in the autumn. Prior to the council meeting, national and provincial authorities reached an agreement with the municipality regarding financial terms, committing over 100 million euros collectively towards improving area accessibility. The project includes not only Eli Lilly's production facility but also thousands of new housing units, with at least half designated as affordable. This agreement addressed a key demand from the council, with the national and provincial governments contributing 72 million euros.
This decision marks a significant step towards the establishment of a major pharmaceutical plant and new housing development, impacting the local economy and infrastructure.
