The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) in Guatemala has announced that gasolines containing ethanol will benefit from a 10% reduction in the Petroleum Distribution Tax. Authorities at the MEM explained that this tax will be applied solely to 90% of the fuel content in the mixture. This measure is also expected to contribute to improved final prices for consumers. The introduction of ethanol blends with gasoline is set to take effect on June 30th, although availability at gas stations for consumers will begin on August 21st. This policy aims to promote the use of biofuels and potentially lower fuel costs.
