Military Personnel Criticize Ministry of Defense Reform Proposals, Citing 'Ephemeral' Postponement

Following the Ministry of Defense's announcement of a long-awaited army reform package, including new contracts, service terms, and increased payments, many military personnel have voiced strong criticism. While some thank the ministry for tackling difficult issues, the majority are harshly criticizing the proposals. 'Ukrainska Pravda' surveyed around 30 servicemen, revealing mixed reactions. Many do not plan to leave the military soon, believing the war will continue. Key criticisms include the perception that the reform offers only an 'ephemeral postponement' of six months rather than substantial change. The reform introduces new contracts (6-14 months for infantry/assault troops, 24 months for others) and promises a 100% deferment of at least six months upon contract completion. A cumulative deferment system based on service length and combat exposure is also proposed. Additionally, a mechanism for controlled movement of servicemen between units within a corps is being piloted.
