The Metal and Allied Namibian Works Union (Manwu) announced the strike following a vote where 467 employees supported industrial action due to failed wage negotiations. The union reports that negotiations, which began last August, stalled over disagreements on salary increases and housing allowances. Workers are demanding an 8% salary increase, a N$500 housing allowance, and other benefits, while the company has offered a 5% increase and a N$300 housing allowance. The matter has been referred to the labour commissioner without resolution.
