Aco Ristov, President of the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission (RKE), proposed that citizens should invest in strategic energy projects like the 'Chebren' Hydropower Plant instead of solely purchasing real estate. Ristov advocates for viewing energy not just as a state monopoly but as an area for broader societal participation. He suggested forming joint-stock companies for major projects, allowing citizens direct investment opportunities. This approach would redirect funds towards productive assets and stimulate economic development. Ristov also emphasized the importance of the energy transition, citing the planned cogeneration plant in Bitola as a positive step away from fossil fuels. He highlighted e-mobility as a future focus, noting Macedonia's low adoption rate. Regarding carbon taxes, he acknowledged challenges with electricity price competitiveness but stressed the need to continue the energy transition.
This proposal encourages citizens to invest in national energy infrastructure, potentially boosting economic development and energy independence.
