A doctor and a nurse from the Mother Teresa Clinical Center have been charged with smuggling and customs fraud for attempting to illegally import 199 vials of 'Sotorius' brand Botox. The individuals allegedly declared the shipment as 'cosmetic samples' valued at $80, a fraction of its actual worth of 615,000 Macedonian denars. The doctor, who ordered the product from Korea, allegedly enlisted the nurse to receive the shipment at her address and pay using her personal account. Customs officials discovered the discrepancy during a detailed inspection of the postal package. Importing Botox requires approval from the Macedonian Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (MALMED). The Director of Customs emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against such illegal activities, citing public health risks.
This case highlights a smuggling attempt involving regulated medical products, posing risks to public health and undermining customs regulations.
