Ljupcho Grnčisharov, a former chief inspector at the Directorate for Protection and Rescue and one of the accused in the Kočani tragedy that claimed 63 young lives and injured over 200, has died. He passed away while under house arrest after reportedly feeling unwell. Grnčisharov was among 35 defendants, including government officials and company representatives, facing charges related to 'grave offenses against public safety.' The Public Prosecutor's Office has been notified and has ordered an autopsy. Grnčisharov, 54, had served as a general inspector until the incident on March 16th, 2025. He had not complained of health issues during court hearings. Another suspect, a police officer, also died prior to the indictment. Three separate court proceedings are currently underway concerning the tragedy.
