Bangladeshi Expatriate Tortured at In-Laws' Home in Sherpur; Daughter Files Case Against Father

An expatriate Bangladeshi national, identified as Sorahab Hossain alias Babu, was allegedly tortured by his in-laws in Sherpur's Nalitabari Upazila after returning from abroad. He claims he went to his in-laws' home to claim land he had purchased using funds sent from overseas. According to the complaint, Hossain was tied to a coconut tree with chains and beaten. His wife, Mariam Begum, filed a case against her father, Mohor Uddin, her uncle, Asad Ali, and nine others. Police have arrested one suspect. Hossain, who spent about 17 years abroad, had reportedly sent approximately 8.5 lakh Taka to his father-in-law for land purchase. The incident highlights a dispute over property and alleged violence within the family. Police are continuing their investigation and pursuing other suspects.
