The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Adegoke Oluwatobi Adams, a Nigerian-American dual citizen, for alleged cross-border vehicle import fraud totaling over $320,000 (approximately ₦434.88 million). The suspect is accused of belonging to a US-based syndicate that defrauds Nigerians by promising to import vehicles. Preliminary investigations reveal Adams advertised a luxury vehicle, a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, and received substantial payments from two victims. The EFCC stated Adams has a prior criminal record in the US related to vehicle acquisition. He was arrested upon returning to Nigeria and faces charges of criminal breach of trust and obtaining money by false pretenses.
