Greece, Cyprus, and Italy are joining forces to protect Mediterranean sea turtles through the European project LIFE Adapts. This initiative, co-funded by the EU, focuses on conserving endangered species and coastal ecosystems threatened by climate change. The project involves monitoring nesting trends, studying beach resilience, and raising public awareness across the three countries. In Greece, efforts have expanded to new areas like Epirus and Corfu, utilizing drones and temperature sensors to assess climate impacts on nesting sites. Cyprus is monitoring over 100 nests and assessing beach resilience, while Italy is engaging hundreds of volunteers in protecting nesting sites along its coasts.
This collaborative conservation effort is vital for protecting endangered marine species and fragile coastal ecosystems facing increasing threats from climate change.
