Teesta Mega Project to Be Approved Soon by ECNEC, Similar to Padma Barrage, Says Water Resources Minister

The Teesta Mega Project is slated for approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in the near future, mirroring the process for the Padma Barrage, according to Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Ani. He made this announcement during a consultation meeting in Gandhimari, Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat. The Minister emphasized the project's national importance and highlighted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's commitment to it. Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asaduzzaman Noor also spoke, noting the significant cost of the project (estimated at 12-13 thousand crore Taka) and expressing confidence that it could be funded by the government's own resources without foreign dependency. The meeting included local representatives, journalists, and officials from the Water Development Board.

The potential approval of the Teesta Mega Project signifies a major step towards addressing water management and flood control in the region, with significant economic and environmental implications.
