Child Marriage Attempt Foiled at Joypurhat Sugar Mill; Father Signs Undertaking

An attempt to secretly conduct a child marriage involving the son of the Joypurhat Sugar Mill's Managing Director and the daughter of another senior official was stopped by local administration on Friday. The bride, who is yet to complete her secondary examinations and is underage, was to be married to an intern doctor. Upon learning of the arrangement, the Upazila Executive Officer and Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station intervened. The bride's father provided a written guarantee not to proceed with the marriage until she reaches the legal age. Both families claimed it was only a ring ceremony, but the administration emphasized its strict stance against child marriage.
