The Integrated Papallacta System is set to resume supplying water to northern Quito after a five-year interruption. The reconstruction of the Blanco Chico intake, managed by Epmaps-Agua de Quito, will add 700 liters per second to the system, benefiting approximately 45% of the metropolitan population. Mayor Pabel Muñoz inspected the 93% complete project, which replaces a structure destroyed by a flood in 2021. Located in the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve, the intake is crucial for Quito's northern districts. The $726,000 project involves a new intake structure and a 640-meter tunnel. Advanced multiparametric buoys are also being installed for real-time water quality monitoring.
The restoration of the Blanco Chico water intake significantly improves water security for a large portion of Quito's population.
