The Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI) and ECOWAS convened private sector representatives in Banjul to address customs barriers and formalize approximately $10 billion in informal trade. This initiative aims to boost regional commerce within West Africa, which has a combined GDP of $686 billion but suffers from stagnant intra-regional trade.
Efforts to formalize informal trade and reduce customs barriers are crucial for unlocking the economic potential of the ECOWAS region and fostering greater integration.
