Uruguayan Meteorologist Predicts Moderate Temperatures for 'Veranillo de San Juan' Period

Meteorologist Núbel Cisneros anticipates that temperatures towards the end of June and early July may become more moderate, aligning with the traditional "veranillo de San Juan" (St. John's summer). However, he cautioned that the predicted temperature increase is unlikely to be substantial and might occur outside the typical timeframe around June 24. Cisneros emphasized that prevailing winter conditions are expected in the coming days, with persistent south and southwest winds causing very low perceived temperatures between Tuesday and Friday of next week. This forecast follows predictions of the year's most intense polar cold wave entering Uruguay around the winter solstice on June 21. Another cold wave is expected from June 22, originating from polar air. Temperatures are projected to be 3°C to 6°C below average from June 22 to June 29, particularly in northern Uruguay. Some rainfall is also expected between June 22 and 27, which is beneficial after a dry period.
