Kerala CM States No Provision for State Withdrawal from PM SHRI Scheme Agreement
Chief Minister says only Union government had the right to withdraw from the PM SHRI agreement after giving a notice of one month. There was no provision in the agreement to keep the scheme implementation in abeyance either
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has clarified that the state has no provision to withdraw from the agreement concerning the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. He explained that only the Union government holds the right to terminate the agreement with a 30-day notice. Satheesan highlighted that Kerala became a party to the MoU upon signing, and there's no clause allowing the state to suspend or exit the scheme. He referenced arguments made by the former Education Minister, V. Sivankutty, emphasizing that state curriculum can coexist with the National Education Policy and that rejecting centrally sponsored schemes harms public interest. The Chief Minister urged the opposition to recall these points while criticizing the UDF's decision on PM SHRI.
The Chief Minister's statement clarifies Kerala's commitment to the PM SHRI scheme, highlighting the binding nature of the agreement and refuting claims of state withdrawal options.
